§ 42-6. Municipal convenience and recycling container sites.

  • (a)

    Municipal convenience and recycling container sites may be provided for the collection of residential refuse, garbage, and recycling generated and discarded on a routine basis by the residents and property owners of Pine Knoll Shores. The solid waste and recycling container sites shall not be used for the collection or disposal of:

    -

    Appliances.

    -

    Mechanical devices.

    -

    Electronics.

    -

    Furniture, except in designated areas.

    -

    Equipment.

    -

    Fluids.

    -

    Hazardous substances.

    -

    Yard waste, except in designated areas.

    -

    Items that do not fit within the on-site containers.

    -

    Construction and demolition materials, except in designated areas.

    -

    Materials requiring specialized handling.

    Further, each item must be placed securely within an on-site container such that it will not spill out. Items must not be left outside of a container, even if the container is full.

    (b)

    Commercial solid waste and commercial yard waste are not accepted at municipal convenience and recycling center sites.

    (c)

    No solid waste or yard waste which has been collected by a contract hauler, an independent contractor, or for a fee, charge or tax, shall be deposited in a collection container at a municipal convenience site or dumped on the designated property of the municipal convenience site.

    (d)

    All items shall be placed inside the appropriate container. Materials deposited in containers such as cardboard boxes and other packaging materials shall be reduced to their smallest volume by bending, breaking and compressing the material before placing it into the containers.

    (e)

    Violation of subsections (a) through (c) of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor and be subject to a civil penalty of up to $500.00. All subsections are additionally subject to the penalty provisions of section 1-12. In addition, the registered owner of the vehicle from which materials in violation of this section are taken is subject to the civil penalty provided in section 1-12 of the Pine Knoll Shores Town Code.
