§ 34-1. Privies and septic tanks.

(a)

Privies. No privy of any kind shall be permitted within the town, except that at least one self-contained portable privy shall be provided by building contractors for the convenience of workmen on each building site where no other restroom facility exists. The portable privy may not be placed on the town right-of-way and it must be removed prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy for a single-family residence or the certificate of occupancy for the final unit of a multiunit project.

(b)

Septic tanks. A septic tank may be installed provided, such tank is constructed and installed in accordance with the specifications and requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Health and the Board of Health of Carteret County. It shall be the responsibility of the property owner or occupant of the premises to maintain the septic tank in proper operating condition at all times.
